Professional Planning Support

Winspire’s Event Fundraising Consultants are happy to help you find the right Experiences for your specific auction and supporter base. Once you make your selections, we’ll also share high-quality photos you can use in your marketing materials and event displays.

What items sell best at nonprofit auctions?

The top 10 categories of charity auction items that balance strong revenue generation potential with audience appeal are:

  1. Vacation packages
  2. Gift baskets
  3. Event tickets (concerts, musicals, sports, etc.)
  4. Signed celebrity memorabilia
  5. Artwork & antiques
  6. Certificates for services
  7. Family-friendly activities
  8. Fine food and beverages
  9. Popular technology
  10. High-end goods (jewelry, designer bags, trending kitchen appliances, etc.)

In a 2025 survey of nonprofit auction participants, the types of items that the most participants reported bidding on were gift certificates (33%), dining and culinary-related prizes (32%), and travel packages (26%). These numbers underscore the importance of including items from all or most of the above categories and at a variety of price points in your auctions.

Why purchase charity auction items on consignment?

While it’s often easier and cheaper to procure many types of items via in-kind donations or nonprofit discounts rather than by going through consignment providers, the latter is still a top strategy for securing travel packages and other experiential prizes. This is true for a few key reasons, including:

  • Cost: Vacations are rarely donated or discounted, so consignment is often the least expensive way to secure these prizes.
  • Convenience: Piecing together a travel package from individual vendors’ offerings can be time-consuming, but consignment providers take care of contacting multiple hotels, transportation companies, and excursion organizers for you.
  • Support: While offerings vary, many consignment providers will help you select the best prizes for your nonprofit, assist with marketing, and book winners’ travels for them after your auction.
  • Protection: As long as your provider uses a 100% no-risk model where you only pay for what you sell at your event, you won’t have to worry about losing money on consignment travel.

Make sure to vet consignment auction item companies carefully before working with them to maximize these benefits for your nonprofit.

What is typically included in a Winspire Experience?

Most Winspire Experiences include accommodations at trusted hotels, a few activities unique to that package’s destination for two travelers, and our in-house booking and concierge service. However, some Experiences are designed for families of four or even larger groups, and our travel agents can help winning bidders add travelers, rooms, nights, or excursions on to their trips (usually for an additional fee).

Additionally, while some Experiences cover local transportation during a winner’s vacation, airfare usually isn’t included to give travelers flexibility to choose their preferred airports, airlines, and seat types. Winspire’s travel agents can also assist with booking flights and other forms of transportation (e.g., train tickets or rental cars) for packages where these aren’t included, although winning bidders will be responsible for the cost of anything not included in their base Experience.

What if I can’t find the exact Experience I want in Winspire’s catalog?

The Winspire team is happy to work with your nonprofit to create custom packages that appeal to your unique supporter base and center your mission. We can also sometimes price-match vacation packages offered by other consignment auction item providers, although price-matching isn’t guaranteed, and we approve requests on a case-by-case basis.
